TOTAL KNOWN PORCELAIN VARIETIES: 1
Nevada is a state from which no porcelains were ever officially issued. However,
there remains one surviving porcelain Nevada plate nonetheless! In fact, Nevada
joins Utah and Iowa alone as one of only three states from which we are aware of
but one solitary license plate to document the existence of porcelains plates from
the state.
I: PRE-STATES / CITY & COUNTY PLATES
Nevada began motor vehicle registration in 1913, but for three years, it was up to
a vehicle owner to manufacture plates themselves. In this pre-state era prior to
the state's first official issue in 1916, plates could be made of any material and
examples are known in leather, embossed metal and flat metal with attached
house numbers, to name a few. However, there were also some owners that
chose to contract with an enameling firm and have porcelain license plates made
up for their vehicles. For decades now, there has been one surviving example of
a porcelain Nevada pre-state - a simple undated black & white plate.
II: STATE-ISSUED PASSENGER PLATES
None Issued.
III: STATE-ISSUED NON-PASSENGER PLATES
